For years, the answer to "where is India's best tech talent?" had one answer: Bengaluru. The city's ecosystem — built over three decades of MNC investment, startup density, and engineering college pipelines — made it the default destination for anyone serious about a tech career.
In 2026, that story is more complicated. Delhi NCR is mounting a serious challenge — and the data from our placements, conversations with candidates, and client mandates tells a nuanced story about where talent is moving and why.
The Numbers First
Based on our placement data and candidate surveys across 2025–2026:
- 38% of candidates in our active pipeline are open to Delhi NCR roles — up from 28% in 2023
- Bengaluru still commands 12–18% salary premium for equivalent roles vs Delhi NCR
- Relocation from Bengaluru to NCR increased 40% year-on-year among candidates aged 28–35
- NCR-based startups are filling senior roles 20% faster than 2 years ago
Head-to-Head: The Real Differences
🌆 Bengaluru
- Larger, denser startup ecosystem
- More Series B+ companies per square km
- Stronger AI/ML talent cluster
- Better VC proximity and network density
- More lateral hiring options within city
- 12–18% salary premium
- IIM Bangalore and IISc pipeline
🏛️ Delhi NCR
- Lower cost of living (30–40% cheaper)
- Stronger fintech and enterprise tech cluster
- IIT Delhi pipeline gaining momentum
- Better quality of life for families
- Growing edtech and healthtech ecosystem
- Faster hiring velocity for senior roles
- Emerging as GCC hub
Why Candidates Are Choosing NCR More Often
The shift is driven primarily by life-stage decisions, not career ones. The candidates moving from Bengaluru to NCR are mostly in the 28–36 age bracket — when family priorities shift the calculus. A 32-year-old senior engineer who can buy a 3BHK in Noida for what they'd pay for a 1BHK in Whitefield is making a rational choice.
The hybrid and in-office rollback has also changed the equation. When remote work meant location didn't matter, Bengaluru's ecosystem advantage was diluted. Now that most companies are 3–5 days in-office, the question of where you want to live and raise a family has returned to the forefront of career decisions.
What This Means for Companies Hiring in Both Cities
If you're hiring in Bengaluru: AI/ML, platform engineering, and consumer product roles still attract the deepest talent pools here. Salary expectations are higher — budget accordingly. The competition for senior talent is intense; your process needs to be faster than your competitors'.
If you're hiring in NCR: Enterprise software, fintech, edtech, and B2B SaaS talent pools are strong and growing. Senior candidates from Bengaluru who want to relocate home are increasingly available — and often highly motivated. The hiring market is less competitive, but you may need to actively sell the NCR opportunity to candidates who default to Bengaluru.
Our recommendation: If your role can be filled by a strong candidate from either city, consider opening it to both and letting candidate preference guide the location. The talent pool you're fishing in doubles immediately — and you often end up with a better hire.
The Wild Card: Hyderabad
The story isn't just a two-city narrative. Hyderabad has quietly emerged as the most competitive third option in Indian tech hiring. GCCs, strong engineering colleges, and a lower cost base than both Bengaluru and NCR make it an increasingly attractive location for companies looking to build quality engineering teams outside the two dominant markets.
In our 2025–2026 placement data, Hyderabad saw the fastest growth in senior engineering placement volume of any city — up 35% year-on-year.
